Project overview:

Innovative Deepwater Mooring Systems for Floating Wind Farms (DeepFarm)

Awardee:

Principle Power, Inc.

Start Date:

Q1, 2021

Technical Challenge Area:

Floating Structure Engineering

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

This project will leverage the expertise and real-world experience of industry partners to determine the optimal mooring designs for deepwater, commercial-scale FOWT (floating offshore wind turbine) projects that are representative of the U.S. West Coast and Hawaii.

Target Outcomes:

1
To design, at a feasibility study level suction piles that are suitable for installation at one or more of the prospective locations d
2
Conduct a comprehensive LCoE study to estimate the costs of the mooring systems designed. The study shall focus on the cost differences between the DEA mooring systems and the shared, suction anchor systems that were designed.
