Project overview:

A Small, Scalable, Highly Maneuverable and Cost Effective UUV Solution for Acquiring Accurate Environmental Data Within a Floating Wind Farm Footprint to Full Project Depth

Awardee:

Geo SubSea

Start Date:

Q4, 2025

Technical Challenge Area:

Environment and Conflicting Use

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

This project will develop and demonstrate a compact, autonomous, deep-water uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) for environmental data acquisition supporting floating offshore wind development. The “Recon UUV” will enable high-resolution optical seabed mapping and water-column monitoring, improving the quality and efficiency of offshore surveys.

Target Outcomes:

1
Demonstrate reliable deep-water autonomous environmental survey operations to 3,000 meters.
2
Validate high-resolution benthic mapping and obstacle-avoidance capabilities in floating-wind-representative waters offshore California.
