Project overview:

An Ultra Scalable AUV for Deep Benthic Access

Awardee:

Orpheus Ocean

Start Date:

Q4, 2025

Technical Challenge Area:

Environment and Conflicting Use

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

The Orpheus autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) is the first fully autonomous, mobile platform for seafloor data and sample collection. In this project, Orpheus Ocean in collaboration with Integral Consulting will develop, integrate, and demonstrate key payloads for the AUV that will allow for critical data collection.

Target Outcomes:

1
Develop key payloads for the Orpheus AUV, including 1) an optical substrate profiling system, 2) an environmental DNA sampler, and 3) a methane sensor.
2
Design and construct payloads specifically for autonomous integration onto the Orpheus AUV, including development of mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
3
Test, evaluate, and validate fully integrated payload systems via closed- and open-water environments as well as an extended commercial demonstration in an operation environment.
