Project overview:

Atlantic seaboard offshore stability risk evaluation & service

Awardee:

Clarkson University

Start Date:

Q2, 2023

Technical Challenge Area:

Electrical Power Systems

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

This project will develop a new modeling platform and commercial service to enable assessment and mitigation of these risks by industry players. This service goes beyond existing DOE studies to model unbalanced and non fundamental frequency phenomena as well as controls stability of inverter-based resources.

Target Outcomes:

1
System-wide model incorporating 30GW of offshore wind across the Atlantic Seaboard and the onshore model of the East Coast RTOs
2
Risk evaluation method for offshore wind power interconnections
3
A service with the capabilities and capacity to provide cross-regional studies involving multiple utilities and ISO/RTO’s
