Project overview:

Bio-inspired Resident Underwater Vehicle for Fishery Surveys

Awardee:

The Candide Group

Start Date:

Q4, 2025

Technical Challenge Area:

Environment and Conflicting Use

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

This project will develop a long-range, high endurance uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) in midwater and benthic zone surveys. The proposed UUV technology has the potential to dramatically lower the cost of specific data needs through scaling and the standardization of tool and method.

Target Outcomes:

1
Develop a go-to-market strategy for autonomous platforms, sensor technologies, and data infrastructure aligned with market demand drivers and industry requirements.
2
Demonstrate autonomous operation of an auto-modulating power source system for at least 3 months without battery replacement or external charging.
3
Achieve a depth rating greater than 1,300 meters for the benthic monitoring validated through lab and field testing.
