Project overview:

Dual-Functional Tuned Inerter Damper for Enhanced Semi-Sub Offshore Wind Turbine

Awardee:

Virginia Tech

Start Date:

Q4, 2021

Technical Challenge Area:

Floating Structure Engineering

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

Develop a dual-functional tuned-inerter damper enhanced semi-submersible mooring system for deep ocean deployment sites. The system will mitigate the vibration motion of the offshore wind platform caused by wind-induced vibration and ocean wave excitation, at the same time convert the wind and wave induced vibration energy into electricity.

Target Outcomes:

1
Develop a dual-functional tuned-inerter damper enhanced semi-submersible mooring system for deep ocean deployment sites.
2
To construct a scaled model for tank testing and develop a tech to market strategy.
