Project overview:

Novel Launching Platform for Floating Offshore Wind

Awardee:

Foss Maritime

Start Date:

Q4, 2025

Technical Challenge Area:

Floating Structure Engineering

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

Floating offshore wind foundations are growing in size, but ports often lack dry docks to launch them. Foss developed a floating dry dock concept using two connected ocean-going barges. Under this agreement, Foss will refine the design for modularity, cost, and broader use across sites and foundation types.

Target Outcomes:

1
A refined, modular floating dry dock concept design optimized for functionality, constructability, and cost effectiveness.
2
Assessment of multiple port sites and foundation types to evaluate feasibility, scalability, and deployment flexibility.
3
Clear design and cost insights to inform future demonstration, commercialization, and port integration pathways.
