Project overview:

Offshore Wind Black-Start Feasibility Framework for System Restoration Planning

Awardee:

Electric Power Research Institute

Start Date:

Q3, 2024

Technical Challenge Area:

Electrical Power Systems

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

This project aims to develop a generalized framework for incorporating offshore wind resources into power system restoration plans. This research focuses on identifying suitable network areas for using offshore wind in blackstart scenarios.

Target Outcomes:

1
Developing advanced inverter control strategies and metrics for system operators to integrate offshore wind in a controlled and reliable manner.
2
Develop a generalized framework which can be used on a system-wide basis in identifying the areas of the network that are most suitable for restoration with offshore wind under a range of different operational and contingency scenarios.
