Project overview:

Renewable Powered, Uncrewed Mobile Assets to Monitor Protected Marine Mammals

Awardee:

SAILDRONE Inc.

Start Date:

Q2, 2023

Technical Challenge Area:

Environment and Conflicting Use

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

This project will utilize advanced uncrewed observing platforms and advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning (ML) technologies, developed by SAILDRONE and RPS, to create a near real-time monitoring network to detect, classify, and localize marine mammals from shore.

Target Outcomes:

1
Demonstration of the use of SAILDRONE vehicles to provide real-time data to worksite and/or shoreside PAM operators and protected species observers;
2
and using advanced ML technology that maintains, if not improves, the ability of PAM Operators to detect and mitigate potential adverse effects to marine species.
