Technology Development Priorities for Scientifically Robust and Operationally Compatible Wildlife Monitoring and Adaptive Management

Awardee:

Worley Consulting (formerly Advisian)

Start Date:

Q1, 2022

Technical Challenge Area:

Environment and Conflicting Use

Completion Date:

Q1, 2024

Synopsis:

This project will comprehensively map current marine wildlife monitoring technology by conducting a literature review, database analysis, and workshop series with the scientific community, academia, and industry. The aim is to improve future development of wildlife monitoring technology and better integrate it with OSW operations.

Target Outcomes:

1
Enhance the data viability of wildlife monitoring technologies to better understand the ecological impacts of offshore wind operations.
2
Assess the potential for marine wildlife monitoring technology integration into offshore wind operations and physical infrastructure.
3
Conduct a gap analysis to assess what marine monitoring capabilities are needed but not yet offered by current technology.
4
Develop targeted recommendations for future innovation to improve monitoring technologies, reduce costs for developers, and enhance wildlife conflict mitigation practices.
