Project overview:

Application of Novel Offshore Oil & Gas Platforms to Large Wind Turbines

Awardee:

Deep Reach Technology

Start Date:

Q3, 2021

Technical Challenge Area:

Floating Structure Engineering

Completion Date:

Q3, 2022

Synopsis:

Novel concepts successfully deployed in the offshore oil & gas industry in recent years were evaluated for their application in the U. S. offshore wind market. Concepts include cell spar, buoyant tower, tension buoyant tower, mini-TLP, compliant tower and guyed tower.

Target Outcomes:

1
Complete a basis of design for application of novel oil and gas technologies in offshore wind applications.
2
Size and analyze candidate platform and mooring concepts.
3
Evaluate novel manufacturing and installation methods for these platforms in order to achieve economical solutions for U. S. offshore wind applications, especially deep water floating wind.
