Project overview:

Self-Installing Concrete Gravity-Base Substructure Sizing for 15MW Turbine

Awardee:

ESTEYCO S.A.

Start Date:

Q4, 2021

Technical Challenge Area:

Fixed Structure Engineering

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

In this project, ESTEYCO is designing, testing, and developing a manufacturing strategy for their ELISA gravity based substructure for 15MW offshore wind turbines. The project scope involves extensive supply chain assessment, technoeconomic analysis, and tank testing of the structure.

Target Outcomes:

1
Complete design of the ELISA technology - optimized for performance, Jones Act compliant tow-out, US supply chain capabilities and facilities, and manufacturing cost.
2
Evaluate performance of the technology in tow-out, installation, and operation phases by conducting a tank testing campaign.
3
Evaluate the overall manufacturing cost and LCOE impact of the technology, with the aim of developing a quantifiable market opportunity for this technology in the US.
