Project overview:

Standardized Scalable Mooring Solutions Optimized for the U.S. Supply Chain

Awardee:

National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL)

Start Date:

Q2, 2023

Technical Challenge Area:

Floating Structure Engineering

Completion Date:

N/A (Currently Underway)

Synopsis:

This project aims to proactively design a standardized floating offshore wind mooring system. To achieve the economic benefits associated with standardized offshore wind component designs, this project will develop an optimized FOW mooring system based on West Coast seabed and supply chain characteristics.

Target Outcomes:

1
Create industrialized floating offshore wind mooring designs for U.S. West Coast conditions.
2
Publish a U.S. station keeping supply chain analysis, concurrently taking into account station keeping component & installation demands, as well as supply chain capacities and constraints at 2 U.S. West Coast sites.
3
Update and improve offshore wind supply chain models that will be used in this project.
